Team Florida posts two wins

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Team Florida, based in Lynn Haven, rebounded from an opening loss to post a 2-1 record in pool play in the National Youth Baseball Championships pitting representatives from eight different youth baseball organizations and sponsored by Major League Baseball.

Team Florida, representing USSSA baseball, lost 2-1 to San Diego (AABC) when it was limited to hits by Lucas Dunn and RJ Yeager. Peyton Millirons scored the run when he walked in the sixth and stole second and third. The Bay County squad rebounded to beat Tamiami (Pony) 6-2 with a five-run first inning. Brendan Fox was 3 for 3, Weston Bizzle had a grand-slam home run and Alec Aleywine was the winning pitcher.

In a game televised Saturday morning on the MLB Network, Team Florida dispatched Southeast Lexington, Ky., (Babe Ruth) 11-2. Will Lumpkin had three hits, Jordan Murray, Juan Agosto, Michael Cullen and Bizzle two each, Cullen collected two RBIs and Murray was the winning pitcher.

The semifinals and finals of the tournament were scheduled for Sunday.
