Cocoa caps sweet season with Class 2A title
ORLANDO (AP) — Chevelle Buie scored two touchdowns and Cocoa defeated Glades Central 27-13 on Saturday night in the Florida Class 2A football championship.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound junior finished with 208 yards on 27 carries and 27 yards on three receptions.
Buie’s first touchdown, a 62-yard run with 8:24 left in the first half, helped Cocoa (14-0) pull within 13-10. The TD sparked 24 straight points by the Tigers, who won their second straight title.
Cocoa struck again 10 seconds later on a 28-yard interception return by Antonio Wallace.
Buie later scored on a 37-yard run with 4:49 remaining for a 14-point Tigers’ lead.
The Tigers finished with 316 yards rushing on 46 carries.
Leron Thomas led the Raiders (13-1) with 249 yards passing for a touchdown. Glades Central missed out on its seventh state title, and third this decade.
