Chiles snaps Mosley's 18-match volleyball streak
TALLAHASSEE — Mosley’s 18-game winning streak in volleyball was ended Thursday by the school that handed the Dolphins their only other defeat of the season.
Tallahassee Chiles dropped Mosley to 19-2 overall with a 25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19 decision. The Timberwolves had defeated the Dolphins in five games early this season at Mosley, but despite losing in four games Thursday Dolphins coach Steve Canfield thought his team improved from the earlier match.
“I put them on the schedule because I knew they were going to be tough,” Canfield said of Chiles. “We had 14 service errors, so our serve wasn’t quite on, but it was a huge improvement over the last time we played them. The girls played real hard tonight.”
The Dolphins had only three aces in the match, and backed up Canfield’s assertion by missing six serves in the second game. They were led by Deanna Canfield with 14 kills and nine assists. Cayce May had eight kills and 19 digs, Lindsey Richardson 25 assists and 15 digs, Amanda Singletary 12 target serve receives, Lauren Corbin an outstanding night with 19 digs and 27 target serve receives and sophomore Rachel Skibba had a career-high 11 kills.
Mosley’s junior varsity fell to 15-2 with a 25-18, 25-22 defeat. Heidi Nix had seven assists, Shannon Hicks had two kills and two blocks and Kelsey Reed had two kills, two blocks and two aces.
Mosley hosts Niceville on Tuesday in a key District 2-6A match. Middle school volleyball players attending the game in their school T-shirt or game jersey will be admitted free.
