The News Herald will publish announcements of area interest concerning meetings or events. Announcements, which must be dated and contain contact information, can be mailed to the Sports Department, P.O. Box 1940, Panama City, FL, 32402, faxed to the Sports Department at 747-5097 or e-mailed to sports@pcnh.com. Events that require entry fees or registration costs that don’t benefit charities or go toward the operating expenses of youth leagues or school booster clubs, or toward the purchase of trophies and awards are not eligible, and must run as an advertisement.
Learn to Swim program
The Athletic and Wellness Department at Gulf Coast State College is offering The Red Cross’ ‘Learn to Swim’ program for children of all ages through July. Registration is currently open. The swim lesson schedule can be found at www.gulfcoast.edu/wellness. Contact: 872-3832.
Junior golf tournaments
Junior golf tournaments for boys and girls ages 18 and under will be held May 19 at Signal Hill and June 2 at Bay Point Meadows. The Signal Hill event tees off at 1 p.m., and the Bay Point Meadows tournament starts at 2 p.m. The entry fee for each event is $25 for 18 holes, $20 for nine holes, and carts also will be available for rent. PCB Marlins registration
Part of Florida Panhandle Pop Warner, the Panama City Beach Marlins are conducting registration for the upcoming season in youth football and cheerleading. Kids ages 5-15 are eligible to register. Registration will be held at Hardee’s on Back Beach Road from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 19. Sign-ups will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dairy Queen on Alf Coleman Road in Panama City Beach on June 2. Contact: Jeff Mitchell, 960-6758.
Rosemary tennis tourney
Rosemary Beach Racquet Club will host its 2012 Open tennis tournament May 17-20. The event will consist of several age divisions in men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Entry fees are $44 for singles, $38 per player for doubles. Players will receive dinner Friday night, lunch on Saturday and a tournament T-shirt. The entry deadline is noon on May 11. USTA members can sign up on ustaflorida.com. Cattlemen golf fundraiser
The Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association will host the Colonel Thomas Memorial Golf Classic on May 18 at Indian Springs Golf Club in Marianna. There is a $60 entry fee per player, and that includes greens fees, a cart and a steak dinner. There will be prizes for longest drives and KPs, and hole sponsorships also are available. Run for the Rams

Summer Splash registration
Pre-registration and swimmer placements for the Panama City Swim Team's popular summer learn-to-swim program will be May 21-25 and May 28-June 1. Registration will be held Monday-Thursday from 4:30-5:15 p.m. at Frank Brown Park and at Gulf Coast State College on Fridays from 6:30-7 p.m. The summer splashes program will be offered at two locations, Frank Brown Park and Mosley High School. Additionally, a new summer swim lessons program will be offered for those children not quite ready for summer splashes. Gents charity golf
The 19th annual Gents Charity Golf Tournament will be Saturday, May 26 at Bay Dunes Golf Course. Entry is $65 for the select-shot event with registration at 7 a.m. Minimum team handicap is 20, and payout per team based on 20 teams is $800 for first, $600 second and $400 third. Bay United Soccer
Bay United Soccer will host open tryouts for Fall 2012 Advanced Academy and travel teams for boys and girls ages 8-18 on May 29, May 31 and June 2 at Frank Nelson Park on 23rd Street. Southeastern softball

Junior golf clinic
There will be a junior golf clinic (boys and girls 18 and under) held June 11-14 at Bay Dunes Golf Club from 8-10 a.m. each day. There will be instruction and practice on the range, chipping green and putting green. On the final day 9 holes of golf will be played. Cost is $50, payable on June 11. Tornadoes’ soccer camp

All-Pro Soccer camps
All-Pro Soccer will host a pair of area soccer camps this summer June 11-15. The first camp, sponsored by the Gulf Coast Soccer Boosters, will be held at the Port St. Joe Soccer Complex from 9-11:30 a.m. EDT. On the same dates, a camp sponsored by Callaway Arsenal Soccer Club will be held at the Callaway Sports Complex from 4-6:30 p.m. CDT. Both camps will be supervised by Port St. Joe coach Gary Hindley. Tournament of Champions
Chiles High School will be hosting a baseball tournament with both 18U and 16U divisions June 15-17.
