Prep notes: Local pair win 3-point titles

MARIANNA - Holmes County's Brock Dockery and Graceville's Kayla Walker won respective divisions in the fifth annual Chipola College High School 3-Point Shooting Championship held last week during the junior college state tournaments.
Dockery, who will compete for the East team in the Freedom All-Star Classic April 5, defeated Ponce de Leon's Joe Garner in a tiebreaker for his second consecutive title in the event. The pair tied with 11 of 15 3-pointers in the finals, and Dockery made 8 of 10 in the tiebreaker.
Cottondale's Pierre Speights was third.
Other boys participants were: Cameron Dozier of Graceville, T.J. Smith of Malone, Alex Baxley of Sneads, Lexus Roulhac of Vernon, Clayton Ward of Bethlehem, Kevin Saldonia of Altha and Derick Addison of Poplar Springs.
Walker defeated Ponce de Leon's Jennifer Grant, also a member of the East team, for the girls title.
Other girls participants were: Tara Thompson of Bethlehem, Shay Wright of Poplar Springs, Keiysa Paul of Cottondale, Latoshia Hall of Malone, Mattie Collins of Sneads and East all-star selections Keela McKay of Marianna and Shanida Thomas of Chipley.
Traveling trophies in each division will be housed at Dockery's and Walker's schools over the course of the next year.

Ram Relays are Saturday: At least 17 high schools and six middle schools are expected Saturday at Tommy Oliver Stadium for the eighth Ram Relays track and field meet. It will be the seventh year that middle schools have been included.
The running events will be strictly relays except for the 3200-meter run and the high hurdles events. The field events will be held as usual and begin at 10 a.m.
Also at 10 a.m. will be the 4x800 relay. The distance medley will be held at noon, and all other running events begin at 1 p.m.
High schools will compete in six different relays and the middle schools in five.

Hitchcock competes in all-star games: Mosley co-Defensive Player of the Year Brenton Hitchcock participated in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association boys soccer all-star games last weekend in Port. St. Lucie. Teams were stocked with seniors from four sections of the state.
Hitchcock played on the North squad with players from Pensacola to Jacksonville that defeated the West 5-3 on Friday and lost 3-2 to the East on Saturday. Hitchcock played a significant portion in each match.

FHSAA fall assignments released: The Florida High School Athletic Association recently released its fall sports district assignments. There was one minor change concerning area football teams.
Quincy Munroe pulled out of the state series and is now an independent program. Munroe was in District 1-1B, and now the group features five teams: Graceville, Cottondale, Aucilla Christian and Tallahassee schools FAMU and John Paul II.

Football schedules due: The FHSAA also is reminding area coaches that 2008 football schedules must be submitted to the organization by March 31. Schedules may be uploaded through the iFHSAA login system. Schedules will be released to the general public shortly after member schools comply with the deadline.
