Prep roundup (Oct. 2): Arnold girls golf defeats Rutherford

LYNN HAVEN - Kayle Deberry shot a 40 to lead Arnold to a 174-186 victory against Rutherford at Nature Walk Golf Course.

Elizabeth Heikkinen shot a 43 to lead Rutherford.
Two players from Freeport also played, led by Joshlyn King with a 45.

Arnold, Rutherford and Mosley play Tuesday at Bay Dunes.

Individual scores:

  • Arnold: Lura Edge 41, Kayle Deberry 40, Adda Edge 45, Jessica Coupe 48.

Leon 3, Mosley 0

TALLAHASSEE
Leon (13-2) breezed past Mosley 25-13, 25-14, 25-14 in a district match.

Ann Delaney led the Dolphins with 10 digs and 11 assists, Deanna Canfield had eight kills and eight digs, Mary Ellen Garner had eight digs and Megan Williams added four blocks.

Mosley (15-3) hosts Tallahassee Lincoln on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Leon defeated Mosley in the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-18.

Co-ed soccer
Covenant 5, Malone 0

LYNN HAVEN
Parker Sheffield had two goals and Will Mott, Nick Adams, Andrew Cummings one apiece as Covenant won at the Lynn Haven Sports Complex.

Sheffield added an assist and Bradley Kirksey had three saves in goal for the Lions, 5-3-4. Covenant plays in the Panhandle Christian Conference tournament next week.

JV football
Bozeman 8, Blountstown 6

BLOUNTSTOWN

Bozeman's defense stopped Blountstown on a fourth-and-goal with 30 seconds remaining to preserve a victory.

Bozeman trailed 6-0 midway through the fourth quarter when Zack Martinez threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Will Oberst, and followed with a 2-point conversion run to take the lead.

Kris Gutierrez had two interceptions for the Bucks.
Bozeman (3-2) hosts Vernon next Thursday.

NF Christian 41, PSJ 14
PORT ST. JOE
Port St. Joe's Roman Quinn scored on touchdown runs of 41 and 14 yards in the Tiger Sharks' loss to North Florida Christian.

Chase Watford added a 2-point conversion run for PSJ (2-2).

Port St. Joe plays at Blountstown on Thursday.

Middle schools
Volleyball - Surfside (5-0) defeated Everitt 17-25, 25-9, 25-7, 25-10. Leaders: Samantha Brooks 22 points, five aces; Joanne Booker 13 points, four aces and six kills; Leigh Vandermark one points, one ace. Next: Monday at Mowat.
