Area teams advance to Dizzy Dean baseball title games

Mosley will play for the 16-under Dizzy Dean World Series championship Wednesday.

The Dolphins defeated Rome, Ga., 3-1 in Southaven, Miss., on Tuesday to advance to the final. They await the winner of Rome-J.P.R.D. East for Wednesday’s 9 a.m. championship game. A second if-necessary elimination will take place later Wednesday should Mosley lose its first game of the double-elimination event.

Mosley squeezed out another close win against Rome, having won 2-1 on Monday to move on in the winners’ bracket. Ryan Lackey and Joey Hair had an RBI apiece and the Dolphins also scored on a walk with the bases loaded.

Mosley led 1-0 after one inning. The game was tied 1-1 before Mosley scored two runs in the third to take control.

Charlie Stevenson earned the win in relief. Zach Rhodes secured the save.

J.P.R.D. of Louisiana eliminated Rutherford 13-4 on Tuesday and played Rome later in the day. Mosley has defeated both teams in the tournament.

A Mosley-laden team playing under the Panama City banner in the Senior Division defeated Rome 5-0 in Boynton, Ga., to advance to the championship game. Panama City was set to play the winner of Boynton and the Rays of Alabama. If Boynton won, the championship was to be played late Tuesday, and Wednesday if the Rays were victorious.

The 8U and 14U events also were held in Southaven.

In 14U, the Central All-Stars were eliminated by the Limestone Raiders of Alabama 7-4 late Monday. Central finished 2-2 in bracket play.

In 8U, Panama City Beach fell into the losers’ bracket and was ousted 12-11 by the East Walker All-Stars late Monday. Also in 8U, the Central All-Stars won two games in the consolation bracket and played in a quarterfinal game late Tuesday.
