Jacksonville Providence 63, Tampa Prep 46: LAKELAND (AP) — Patric Young and Stacey Poole combined for 25 points to lead Jacksonville Providence to a 63-46 win over Tampa Prep in the Class 2A state boys basketball final Saturday.
The title captured at the Lakeland Center is the first for Providence (31-1).
Young, a 6-foot-9 forward and Florida Gators signee, had 13 points and seven blocks while controlling the game in the middle, particularly on defense. Poole, who has signed with Kentucky, had 12 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Guard Alex Bodney also scored 12 for Providence.
The Stallions led the entire way to top Tampa Prep (25-5), which was also bidding for its first championship. The Terrapins, led by Jay Bowie with 18 points, also were the state runner-up in 1997 and 1999.
