Bay's Clutch places 11th at state
ORLANDO — Bay’s JD Clutch placed 11th in the 100 backstroke to lead Tornadoes’ competitors in the state 1A swimming and diving meet at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center.
Clutch placed ninth in the preliminaries to narrowly miss the finals. In the consolation, he was timed in 54.38 seconds. Bay’s 200 medley relay of Clutch, Phoenix Rine, Aaron Kaufman and Dylan Mock was 12th in 1:41.59.
In the 200 IM, Clutch was 19th in 2:03.26, in the 500 freestyle Mock was 24th in 5:03.15 and in the 100 breaststroke Rine was 20th in 1:03.71.
The Tornadoes’ boys were in 26th place as a team with 16 points following Clutch’s effort in the backstroke. It was, however, their final opportunity to add to their total and Bay eventually placed 28th.
Jacksonville Bolles cruised to lopsided team wins in both the boys and girls divisions.
The Class 2A finals featuring swimmers from Mosley, Arnold and Rutherford will be held on Saturday.
