Boys

Arnold

  • Head coach: Sara Patton, third year.
  • 2010: First in District 1-1A and third in Region 1-1A while establishing 11 school records. At the state meet, Cody Bronnenberg placed second in the 100 breaststroke and earned automatic All-American status and was fourth in the 200 IM where he received All-American consideration. Max White placed 21st in the 200 freestyle, Troy Von Blakenburg placed 21st in the 500 freestyle and the 200 medley relay placed 16th.
  • Key returners: Kyle Buchanan (sr), Zack Dietz (so.), Carter Reynolds (jr.).
  • Others to watch: Austin Arnold (jr.), Denver Dangerfield (fr.), Braden McDonald (so.), Dillon Lehnhardt (fr.).
  • Key losses: Troy Von Blankenburg, Cody Bronnenberg (University of Florida), Keenam McAdams, Trevor Molnar, Jake Nohmer, Trevor Tebault, Max White.
  • Notable: Arnold lost a huge group of seniors who will be hard to replace. The Marlins are small in numbers this year, but excited and ready to get racing and surprise some people. … assistant coach Chris Duncan is in his first year and Mike McMullan in his fourth.

Bay

  • Head coach: Lynn Woodrum, third season
  • 2010: Placed second at the District 1-1A meet and placed sixth at the Region 1-1A meet. JD Clutch anchored two relays and advanced to the regional finals along with Phoenix Rine, Jake Cauthen, Dylan Mock, Patrick Barry and Kurt Owen in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relays and individual events. Clutch set a school record in 100 backstroke (55.26) and qualified for state in the 100 backstroke (15th) and 50 freestyle (24th).
  • Key returners: JD Clutch (sr., backstroke, freestyle sprints), Phoenix Rine (sr., breaststroke, IM), Jake Cauthen (sr., butterfly, freestyle), Patrick Barry (sr., breaststroke, freestyle), and Dylan Mock (so., freestyle).
  • Others to watch: Aaron Kaufman, Carter Barlup, Jim Lewandowski.
  • Key losses: Coach Sarah Guillot, Ian McGuire, Kurt Owen.
  • Notable: Phoenix Rine is team captain for the second year … Bay High remains a Class 1A team in District 1. Arnold and Rutherford have moved to join Mosley in Class 2A. Bay travels to Bolles in Jacksonville for regionals.
  • Quotable:”The boys have a very strong team this year. They are anticipating breaking more school records, winning district, and qualifying for regionals and state in their events. Several boys already have seen significant improvements in their times compared to last season. There will be tough competitions this year, but they are looking forward to the challenge and preparing for great results.” — Lynn Woodrum.

Rutherford

  • Head coach: Jennifer Morgan, third year.
  • 2010: Sixth in district meet. Nick Machuca, 100 backstroke and butterfly and 400 freestyle relay; Jeff Morrison, 100 backstroke and butterfly and 400 freestyle relay; Christopher Jackson, 1-meter diving and 400 freestyle relay; Michael Juchniewicz 400 freestyle relay and Andrew Wylie 400 freestyle relay advanced to regionals. Jackson placed fourth in diving at the state meet.
  • Key returners: Nick Machuca (so., 100 butterfly), Christopher Jackson (jr., 1-meter diving).
  • Others to watch: Michael Juchniewicz (sr., 200 freestyle), Troy Dutton (jr., 100 freestyle).
  • Key losses: Jeff Morrison, Andrew Wylie.
  • Notable: Rutherford is a new addition to District 1-2A. … team captains are Nick Machuca and Michael Juchniewicz. 
  • Quotable: “Moving up to 2A will require our team to make every practice count in order to be ready for districts. Luckily our team leadership is really making this happen.” — Jennifer Morgan 

Girls

Arnold

  • Head coach: Sara Patton, third year.
  • 2010: First in District 1-1A, eighth in Region 1-1A. School records were set in the 200 and 500 freestyle by Nicole Gazia, 1-meter diving by Carlee Kelly and the 200 freestyle relay of Gazia, Audrina Jacob, Sarah Nohmer and Jamie McDonald. Gazia advanced to state placing 18th in the 500 freestyle.
  • Key returners: Casey Doyle (sr.), Nicole Gazia (sr.), Audrina Jacob (sr.), Jamie McDonald (jr.), Hali Naggiar (so.), Sarah Nohmer (jr.), and Sam Varian (so.).
  • Others to watch: Lindsey Arick (sr.), Erin Brahnam (sr.), Lauren Bulger (fr.), Cassidy Cunningham (jr.), Shannon Doyle (fr.), Meredith Schoppe (fr.).
  • Key losses: Emily Churchwell, Carlee Kelly.
  • Notable: Arnold has moved up to Class 2A this year. In the past, many of the Marlins did not find it difficult to advance to regionals and beyond, but District 1-2A is expected to be highly competitive. … assistant coach Mike McMullan is in his fourth year and this year is joined by first-year assistant Chris Duncan.

Bay

  • Head coach: Lynn Woodrum, third year
  • 2010: Placed third at the District 1-1A meet and 10th at the Region 1-1A meet. Taylor Loyd, Allison Troia, Rebecca Woodrum and Jordan Murray placed first at district in the 400 freestyle relay and advanced to regional along with Rachelle Barlup in the medley relay and individual events. Loyd set a school record in the 100 freestyle of 57.09 seconds. 
  • Key returners: Rebecca Woodrum (sr., distance, breaststroke), Jordan Murray (jr., diving), and Kati Jones (sr., breaststroke, freestyle)
  • Others to watch: Rachelle Barlup, Aren Lawler, Olivia McGuire, Alyssa Davenport.
  • Key losses: Coach Sarah Guillot, Allison Troia, Taylor Loyd.
  • Notable: Rachelle Barlup is the team captain … the team has received strong support from Bay County’s other swim coaches and the Tornadoes Booster Club. Their input has helped the season run smoothly. … Woodrum was head coach in 2004 and 2005, and assistant 2008-2010.
  • Quotable: “Almost half of the girls are new to the team; however, they are focused on perfecting their techniques and dropping serious amounts of time throughout the season. The returning swimmers are excited about our growing numbers. Expect to see these girls develop into a strong, determined, well-rounded team that is ready to face any challenge with excellent results and advancements in the state series.” — Lynn Woodrum

Rutherford

  • Head coach: Jennifer Morgan, third year.
  • 2010: Placed eighth as a team in district meet. Devin McGrew,  50 and 100 freestyle; and Heather Marvin,  100 butterfly, advanced to regionals.
  • Key returners:: Devin McGrew (so. 50, 100 freestyle).
  • Others to watch: Mia Needham (so., 100 backstroke), Theresa Palo (so., 200 freestyle).
  • Key losses: Heather Marvin, Amanda Paulsen.
  • Notable: Rutherford also is moving up to District 1-2A.
  • Quotable: “Our underclassmen really stepped it up in the offseason. This season will be very exciting to watch their hard work pay off.” — Jennifer Morgan
