Duderstadt, Seaman pace PCST Tsunamis
PANAMA CITY BEACH — Panama City Swim Team’s Michael Duderstadt placed in the top 20 in two events, and teammate Chet Seaman posted a pair of personal bests at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships held Dec. 8-10 in Austin, Texas.
Duderstadt and Seaman, who were instrumental in leading Mosley to a second-place finish at the Class 2A state meet in November, fared well as individuals at the junior nationals, a national meet comprised of 842 swimmers from around the country.
Duderstadt, 17, placed 18th out of 104 swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57 seconds flat, and he was 19th out of 103 swimmers in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.94.
Tsunamis swim coach Jonathan Kaplan said Duderstadt, who also placed 60th out of 69 swimmers in the 50 freestyle, now possesses the eighth-fastest time nationally among all 17-year-olds in the 200 breaststroke, as well as the 13th-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke. Duderstadt qualified for Winter Nationals in the 200 breaststroke and became the second PCST swimmer ever to qualify for that meet in an individual event.
Seaman, 18, placed 42nd in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.82), and he broke the 59-second mark for the first time while placing 63rd in the 100 breaststroke (58.52). Seaman has the 23rd-fastest time in the country among all 18-year-olds in the 200 breaststroke.
