Mosley's Nguyen second at Class 2A lifting meet

NEW PORT RICHEY — Phuocan Nguyen of Mosley tied for second place at 119 pounds in the Class 2A FHSAA Boys Weightlifting Championships Saturday at River Ridge High School.
Nguyen tied Jesse Brooks of Fleming Island with a 215-pound bench press and equaled Brooks’ clean and jerk of 190 for a 405-pound total. The two athletes also each weighed 117.7 pounds, individual weight normally used as the tiebreaker.
Leo Henderson of Bartow won the class with a 410 total.
The only other Mosley lifter to compete was J.J. Mincy at 219 pounds. Mincy entered the finals with the No. 5 seed total in his weight division, but didn’t register a total in the clean and jerk after benching 365 pounds. Nick Ciciarelli of DeLand won with 385-320, 705.
