Bay's Moody, No. 1 boys doubles advance to state

Arnold girls to play in regional

PENSACOLA — Jason Moody and Tyler Barr celebrated District 1-2A championships in both singles and doubles to lead Bay’s boys to a second-place finish behind district champion Gulf Breeze on Thursday.

Gulf Breeze swept the boys and girls titles. The Dolphins won the boys crown with 18 points, followed by Bay (12), Pensacola (9), Rutherford (5), Arnold (3) and West Florida (1). Gulf Breeze and Bay will compete in regional matches next week.

Moody defeated Gulf Breeze’s Clay Pfeifler 6-2, 6-4 to win the No. 1 singles title and advance to the Class 2A state tournament April 20-22 at Red Bug Lake Park in Casselberry. Barr defeated Gus Anastopoulo 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles division.

Moody also paired with Barr in No. 1 doubles and clinched a trip to state with two victories, including a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over Pfeifler and Josh Goldstein in the title match.

Rutherford’s Neil Vijapura placed second in No. 3 singles, and Bay’s Dylan McCormick was second in No. 4 singles.

The Dolphins won all seven titles in singles and doubles to win the girls’ team title with 21 points. Arnold was second with 12, Pensacola had six, Rutherford three and Bay and West Florida two points apiece. Gulf Breeze and Arnold both advanced to regionals as teams.

Arnold’s Bianca Biglione, Tori Pettofrezzo, Emma Moskowitz and Natalia Busuttil each placed second in singles, and Biglione and Pettofrezzo partnered up in No. 1 doubles and placed second.
