Class 8A: Plants beats Miramar for crown
Plant 31, Miramar 20
ORLANDO — Wesley Bullock rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown as Tampa Plant held off Miramar 31-20 in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 8A state championship game on Saturday.
Plant (14-1) stormed out to a 24-7 halftime behind Bullock and some good decisions by quarterback James Few. Plant scored on the game’s opening drive with Bullock running four times for 54 yards, including the 21-yard touchdown.
Miramar (13-1) rallied in the third quarter as Cameron Hudge threw touchdown passes to Malcolm Lewis and Tanares Robinson.
But Hudge’s failure to protect the football proved to be his undoing as a first-half fumble led to a short Plant touchdown and a fumble in the fourth quarter was recovered by Plant in the end zone by Tate Rogers.
Lewis had seven catches for 94 yards to lead Miramar. Plant, which won its fourth state championship in six seasons, rushed for 254 yards.
