Prep roundup (March 22): PSJ girls win North Florida Relays
Comments 0 | Recommend 0PANAMA CITY - Kayla Parker couldn't defeat her cousin in the 100-meter dash, but won two individual events as the Port St. Joe girls overwhelmed a 14-school field in the 28th North Florida Relays Saturday at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
Port St. Joe won seven of 16 events, Parker taking the long jump and 100-meter hurdles. Rutherford's Hill joined Jazmen Johnson of Mosley in the high jump as the lone Bay County individual winners. Mosley's 4x200 relay and Rutherford's 4x100 also were victorious.
Godby won the boys meet, which saw seven records fall. Host Bay placed third behind runner-up Niceville with Kevin Russell (21 feet, 6 inches) in the long jump, Jama Cain (6-4) in the high jump and Justin Manchester (38.48) in the 300 meter hurdles individual champions for the Tornadoes.
Perhaps the top local performance, however, was by Bay's talented 4x400 meter quartet which not only defeated runner-up Godby by nearly six seconds, but lowered the meet record by four seconds.
