Arnold's Meeks wins district medalist, Marlins place first
Bay, Holmes County teams also move on
MARIANNA — Arnold’s Hudson Meeks shot a 76 to win medalist honors and the Marlins secured the team title in the District 2-1A boys golf tournament held at Indian Springs Golf Course in Marianna on Tuesday.
The top three teams advanced to next week’s Region 1-1A tournament at the AC Read Course at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Arnold shot a 338 team total to win. Bay was second with a 349 and Holmes County (360) third.
The seven teams played in rainy conditions throughout the day with one short delay. Plans to cut the tournament to nine holes were nixed and when the first round of scores came in the teams decided it was best to trudge through the conditions and finish. There was the possibility of finishing today if they didn’t complete the round.
“I’m real pleased with how we played considering the weather,” Arnold coach Bob McKinnon said. “But we’ll have to play much better if we want to advance to the next level.”
Bay was paced by three sub-90s, including Sam McLane’s 79. Michael Fowler carded an 82 and Daniel Fowler 87. Holmes County was led by Trevor Bush’s 78.
Rutherford’s Chris Walters advanced as one of the top three individuals not on a placing team when he shot a 91. Marianna’s Kiado Golden shot an 88 and Bethlehem’s Timmy Stevens a 93 to also advance as individuals.
