Kahle, Turnipseed medal at state wrestling
LAKELAND — Jimmy Kahle of Mosley placed fourth and Zane Turnipseed of Arnold was fifth as the state wrestling tournament concluded Saturday at the Lakeland Civic Center.
Kahle was Mosley’s lone representative to continue wrestling on the second day of the event. Competing at 145 pounds in Class 2A, he decisioned David Jones of Niceville 3-1 and pinned Joshua Jefferies of Largo in 3 minutes, 58 seconds.
Those were Kahle’s third and fourth consecutive wins after his opening loss in the preliminaries on Friday and qualified him to wrestle in the third-place match. He was defeated 11-3 by Michael Alpert of Oviedo to place fourth.
Turnipseed also compiled a 4-2 record at 145 pounds in the Class 1A tournament. He qualified for a place match by defeating Clifford Baker of Northside 6-4 in the third consolation round on Saturday morning. Turnipseed then suffered a 14-5 defeat to Dean Porreca of Satellite before rebounding for a 2-0 triumph over Dominic Livingston of McKeel Academy to earn fifth place.
The only other county wrestler to compete on Saturday was Arnold’s Joel Ensminger at 119 pounds. He was defeated 9-4 by Anthony Vasquez of Coral Gables to finish 2-2 at state.
