Track and Field: Graceville's Williams, PSJ vaulters eye medals
Graceville standout Mychea Williams and a pair of Port St. Joe pole vaulters appear to be the leading candidates to bring home statewide medals in the Class 1A track and field meet Friday in Winter Park.
Williams is the lone area female with the top qualifying performance in any event, leading all girls who advanced in the 200 meters. She also had the second-fastest time in the 100, second-best high jump and runs a leg on Graceville’s 4x100 relay which qualified second fastest.
Port St. Joe pole vaulter Brandon Peak also heads the class in his specialty, his effort of 14 feet, 6 inches the best among all boys in Class 1A. His Tiger Sharks’ counterpart on the girls team, Megan Walker, qualified second in the pole vault.
Jessica McClendon of Graceville has the third-best shot put qualifying total, and Port St. Joe’s Fanequa Larry met state standards in the triple jump and 100 and 200.
