Area golfers seek state berths
Area golf teams and individuals will take aim at state berths in regional tournaments beginning on Monday.
Golfers from Mosley compete in Monday’s Region 1-2A tournament at Eglin Air Force Base. Players from Arnold, Bay, Holmes County, Rutherford, Marianna and Bethlehem compete in Tuesday’s Region 1-1A tournament at the Pensacola Naval Air Station.
Arnold will bring its boys and girls teams to the 1-1A event. The boys are led by district champion Hudson Meeks. The girls are paced by fellow district titlist Lindsey Harrison.
Boys teams from Bay and Holmes County also advanced to the regional tournament. Bay was led in the district tournament by Sam McLane’s 79, while the Blue Devils were headed by Trevor Bush’s 78.
Rutherford’s Katy Hyland and Chris Walters, Bethlehem’s Timmy Stevens and Marianna’s Kiado Golden, Angie Carpenter and Caroline Rogers will compete in 1-1A as individuals.
Mosley will send three individuals to the 1-2A tournament. Ginny Shipman and Megan Daniel advanced from the girls team and Jeremy Senterfitt will represent the boys. Both Mosley teams finished fourth in the district.
The top two teams in each regional and the top two individuals not on a placing squad will advance to the state tournament Nov. 1 and 2.
