Region tennis: Arnold girls move on; Mosley girls fall

Bay's match postponed to Wednesday

LIVE OAK — Whatever concerns Arnold coach Walt Hodges had about Live Oak Suwannee quickly were erased Tuesday in the Region 1-2A girls tennis semifinals.

The Lady Marlins swept the Bulldogs 6-0 to advance to the finals Thursday at Gulf Breeze.

“It was still easier than expected,” Hodges said. “Today everyone played well. We had a great practice yesterday and everybody was just on the top of their game today. I think everybody played at their best today.”

Arnold didn’t finish its No. 1 doubles match because of rain.

Results, with Arnold players first:

  • Singles — No. 1: Bianca Biglione def. Sidnie Sine 6-2, 6-1. No 2. Kali DeBerry def. Kathryn Haney 6-2, 6-0. No. 3: Tori Pettofrezzo def. Mary Finch 6-0, 6-1. No. 4: Olivia Stein def. Lindsey Garland 6-1, 6-0. No. 5: Alexis Cooper def. Ashton Bracewel 6-4, 6-0.
  • Doubles — No. 2: DeBerry-Stein def. Finch-Garland 6-3, 6-0.

Region 1-3A

PENSACOLA — It was a long ride home from Pensacola for Mosley’s girls tennis team. But Coach Renee Whitton wasn’t hanging her head.

Despite the Lady Dolphins losing 7-0 to Pensacola Washington in the Region 1-3A semifinals, Whitton was pleased with their performance.

“They played well, we just didn’t play well enough to finish it off because they made better points,” Whitton said. “They played even better today than they did against (Tallahassee) Leon” in the district tournament.

Mosley’s No. 2 singles player Megan Sizmur and No. 3 Ashley Ingram both lost three-set matches. Sizmur fell to Rachael Soloway 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Ingram lost to Paula Halme 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Hillary Maddox dropped a two-set match to Patricia Izeicki in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Izeicki already has advanced to the FHSAA Finals in singles and doubles.

“I had heard that she was a great player and I kinda psyched myself out,” Maddox said. “I was nervous the whole match.”

Mosley players listed first:

  • Singles — No. 1: Hillary Maddox def. by Patricia Izeicki 6-0, 6-0. No. 2: Megan Sizmur def. by Rachael Soloway 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. No. 3: Ashley Ingram def. by Paula Halme 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. No. 4: Sarah Crane def. by Elizabeth Major 6-1, 7-5. No. 5: Chelsey Williams def. by Bianca Lurate 6-2, 6-2.
  • Doubles — No. 1: Maddox-Sizmur def. by Izeicki-Soloway 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. No. 2: Ingram-Crane def. by Halme-Lurate 6-4, 6-0.
