Team Florida eliminated

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Team Florida, a Lynn Haven-based 12U baseball team, was eliminated in the semifinals Sunday of the National Youth Baseball Championships.

Team Florida had advanced through pool play with a 2-1 record in the event bringing together the champions of eight youth baseball organizations and sponsored by Major League Baseball. In its semifinal, it lost 9-5 to eventual champion Texas Bandidos of Spring, Texas.

Lynn Haven was representing the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) and Texas represented Super Series Baseball of America. Texas defeated San Diego 13-6 later Sunday to claim the title.

Brendan Fox was 3 for 3 in Lynn Haven’s loss and Jordan Murray added a two-run home run, but five Team Florida pitchers were unable to silence the Banditos who had 14 hits. Team Florida ended its season with a record of 79-12.

All travel and accommodation expenses for the event were underwritten by Major League Baseball.
