Prep roundup (Oct. 7): Arnold, Bay net volleyball victories
Comments 0 | Recommend 0TALLAHASSEE - Arnold improved to 6-1 in District 2-4A and 15-4 overall by sweeping Tallahassee Godby Tuesday in volleyball.
The Marlins won 25-15, 25-12, 25-19, as Haley Lanier had eight kills, five digs and two aces, Maggie Johnson five kills and six aces, Katie Steelman 13 kills, two digs and an ace and Kristen Miller 26 assists, two kills and three digs.
The victory virtually assured Arnold one of the top two seeds in the upcoming district tournament at Bay. The Marlins play at Bay on Thursday.
Bay 3, East Gadsden 0
HAVANA
Kristian Robertson had 10 assists, two blocks and three kills in leading Bay to a 25-16, 25-8, 25-5 victory over District 2-4A foe East Gadsden.
The Tornadoes improved to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the district. Brooke Hood added 12 digs and two aces and Suzie Turnage had six aces and five digs for Bay.
Covenant splits with Chipley
PANAMA CITY
Covenant swept Chipley's junior varsity then fell to Chipley's varsity competitors in a home doubleheader.
In the first match, Covenant won 21-25, 25-13, 15-9, with Brooke Canfora leading with 15 service points, four aces and three digs. Juliana Canfora added 10 points, two aces and two assists, Grace Underhill one ace, two kills and two digs, Chrystal McDill three digs and an ace and Valerie Peebles one point and two digs.
In the second match, Chipley won 25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 26-24. Adriane Thompson had 10 points, four aces, seven digs, four kills and three blocks, Morgan Dew six points and three digs, Rebecca Farris four points and 12 digs, Hannah Dobernig three points and two kills and Rachel Phelps three blocks and seven digs for Covenant (6-6), which hosts Ridgewood on Thursday.
Rutherford 3, Wewahitchka 0
SPRINGFIELD
Rutherford's Jennifer Baumgartner had 11 service points, three aces, six digs and three blocks in the Rams' 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 win over Wewahitchka. Christin Beck had nine points, one ace, 23 assists, four digs and two kills, while Alyssa Bowen added 18 digs and three points for Rutherford (12-9).
Rutherford won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-14. Ashley Farnsworth had 19 service points and three digs, while Adrianna Krebs added eight points and 15 assists for the Rams (5-7).
Rutherford hosts Mosley Tuesday (JV at 4 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.).

TALLAHASSEE
All-tournament selections Amanda Singletary and Brandy Blankenship led Mosley to a second-place finish in an eight-school volleyball invitational hosted by Leon. Mosley defeated Godby, Leon's freshmen team and Chiles, before falling 25-16, 25-13 to Leon's junior varsity in the finals.
Leaders for Mosley were Singletary with 11 aces, 36 digs and 26 kills, Blankenshipo with five aces, 52 digs and 30 target serve receptions, Tasha Trzaska with five aces,30 digs and 54 assists and Ashley Childs with six blocks.
Macley, North Florida Christian and Florida High also participated.
Middle schools
Volleyball - Everitt defeated Rosenwald 25-17, 25-10, 25-22. Leaders: Becca Taylor 16 points, five aces, three kills and 10 digs; Kaylyn Julian 11 points, five aces and six digs; Alexis Poindexter six points, one ace, one kill and two digs; Na'Kiya Russell three points, one ace, five kills and three digs; Cynekia Bostwick seven points, one ace, three kills and two digs; Cheyenne Beck three digs, Curstin Taylor three digs, Bridget Keasey four points, one kill and five digs; Keira Butler two service points. Next: Everitt 3-3 at Jinks today. Merritt Brown defeated Jinks 25-19, 25-12, 25-14. Leaders: Katie Moses 16 points and four kills, Mackenzie Lewis 10 points and Haley Austil eight points. Surfside defeated Mowat 25-17, 25-22, 25-7. Leaders: Alex Dyer 17 points and 11 assists, Joanne Booker nine points and five kills, Madi Wichterman nine points and two kills. Next: Surfside 7-0 at Bay Haven today.
