Prep roundup (Sept. 30): Bay volleyball sweeps Rickards
Comments 0 | Recommend 0TALLAHASSEE - Bay's Suzie Turnage had 18 aces in the Tornadoes' doubleheader sweep of Tallahassee Rickards in a volleyball match on Tuesday.
The Tornadoes (5-6) won 25-20, 25-7, 25-12 in the first match and 25-14, 25-11, 25-13 in the second. Bay's Lindsey Morrow had five kills, 14 assists, four digs and 11 aces, Julie Penewitt had 10 kills and five aces while Turnage had seven kills, three digs and 18 aces.
Bay hosts Rutherford on Wednesday (junior varsity at 4 p.m., varsity at 5:30 p.m.).
Mosley stops Arnold
PANAMA CITY BEACH
The Mosley volleyball team remained undefeated in the county with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-16 win over Arnold.
Mosley's Ann Delaney had seven kills, 19 assists and 18 digs, Kelsey Bell had 12 kills, Mary Ellen Garner added 12 digs and three aces and Deanna Canfield had four aces, nine kills and 15 assists, Cayce May had eight digs and Megan Williams had four blocks.
Mosley (15-2) had a season high 40 kills.
The Arnold JV team won 15-25, 25-17, 15-13. Christina Blair, Ashley Chiles and Cassie Padula each had four kills for Mosley (4-3).
Mosley is at Tallahassee Leon (14-0) on Thursday with the varsity game set for 5:30 p.m.
Rutherford downs Chipley
SPRINGFIELD
Rutherford's Jennifer Baumgartner had 21 service points as the Rams downed Chipley 25-17, 26-24, 25-15. Baumgartner added two kills, four digs and three blocks while Christin Beck had five points, 28 assists, two digs and one block.
Rutherford (10-8) plays at Bay on Wednesday.
The Rutherford junior varsity won 25-18, 22-25, 15-12. Selicia Pitts had six service points and five kills while Gina Mathes had five service points.
Covenant 3-2 Tallavanna 0-0
PANAMA CITY
Covenant took at pair of matches from Tallavanna to improve to 5-5 in Panhandle Christian Conference play.
Covenant won the first game 25-12, 25-8, 25-21. Julie Canfora had five points and three assists, Adriane Thompson added 11 points, two aces, two kills, five digs, Morgan Dew had seven points and three digs, Brooke Canfora added four points and five digs and Chrystal McDill had nine points, three aces and four digs for the Lions.
Covenant won the second game 25-18, 27-25. Brooke Canfora had six points and six digs, Julie Canfora had six points and two assists and Thompson had two aces and five digs.
Covenant hosts Chipley on Monday at 4 p.m. Regionals start on Friday Oct. 10 in Tallahassee.
Girls golf
Mosley downs county foes
Ginny Shipman shot at 43 to earn medalist honors to lead Mosley past Arnold and Rutherford at the par 36 Holiday Golf Club course.
Mosley had a 197, Arnold was second with a 221 and Rutherford placed third with a 248.
Arnold's Jessica Coupe was the JV medalist on the par-3 course with a 38.
Rutherford, Arnold and Freeport play Thursday at NatureWalk.
