Hornets rout Rocky Bayou

NICEVILLE — The Cottondale Hornets no longer are winless after winning big against Rocky Bayou Christian on Friday, 56-16 at Destin Middle School in a District 1-1B game.

Cottondale (1-6, 1-2) earned its first win as the Knights (0-7, 0-3) could not stop the relentless running attack of the Hornets.

They piled up 265 yards on the ground, led by Evan Davis who had 101 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries. Nick Jackson added 73 yards and three touchdowns on five carries, with a 41-yard receiving touchdown from quarterback C.J. Smith.

The Knights were able to move the ball with more success in the second half after being shut out in the first, scoring two touchdowns.

Chris Behnken led the Knights’ offense with 46 yards rushing, including a 5-yard touchdown run, while completing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Caleb McCullough.

The Hornets had a blocked punt returned 27 yards for a score by Cody Casper, who also had 69 yards rushing on seven carries.

Cottondale is idle next week.
