Area sports announcements (Updated 7/23)

The News Herald will publish announcements of area interest concerning meetings or events. Announcements, which must be dated and contain contact information, can be mailed to the Sports Department, P.O. Box 1940, Panama City, FL, 32402, faxed to the Sports Department at 747-5097 or e-mailed to sports@pcnh.com. Events that require entry fees or registration costs that don’t benefit charities or go toward the operating expenses of youth leagues or school booster clubs, or toward the purchase of trophies and awards are not eligible, and must run as an advertisement.

Pop Warner registration

Registration for Pop Warner youth football and cheerleading will continue throughout July and August. Ages 7-15 are eligible. Registration fee is $85. Contact: Dena Adams 850-319-0484, or e-mail parkerfieldrep.@live.com or www.nwflpopwarner.com

Football camp

Former Florida All-American and professional football player Patrick Miller, a Mosley graduate, will conduct a speed and agility camp July 24 at Tommy Oliver Stadium. All football players from eighth grade to incoming seniors are eligible. The camp will focus on learning how to generate power and explosion and concentrate on drills to help players perform at a higher level. Cost is $25 per person, of which 3 percent will be donated to the county athletic department. The camp starts at 9 a.m., registration at 8 a.m. and runs until 11:30 a.m. Registration forms are available at area high schools and Bay District School athletic department. Callaway Arsenal soccer

Select youth soccer tryouts for Callaway Arsenal will be held at the Callaway Recreational Complex 8:30 a.m. July 24 for ages 11-12 and 8:30 a.m. July 31 for ages 8-11. Contact: 819-5638 or www.callawaysoccer.com

Charity golf tournament

The Toy for Kids Foundation Charity Golf Tournament in memory of Gary Hundley will be held July 31 at Hombre Golf Club. The cost for a four-person team is $550 and a two-person team is $350 and the format is select shot. Contact: 814-7800.

Mosley volleyball team camp

The Mosley volleyball team will hold a middle school team camp Aug. 2-4 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Mosley gym. Contact: Steve Canfield, 784-1444 or 532-9193.

Harder’s fall softball meeting

H.G. Harder’s Park will hold a fall softball informational meeting at the recreation building Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Contact: Dustin Rennspies, 747-5408.

Adult softball meeting

An organizational meeting for the Fall Adult Softball leagues at Oakland Terrace Park will be held Monday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. Teams include Monday night Men’s League, Thursday night Men’s League and Tuesday night Co-Ed. Contact: 872-3199.

Kick It for CHAOS

The Chaos fastpitch softball organization is hosting the inaugural Kick It for CHAOS adult kickball tournament Aug. 14 at the Callaway Sports Complex. Registration is $100 per team. Contact: Bev Barron, 850-774-4357 or barron4@knology.net for information.

Pelican Rescue Run & Walk

The Pelican Rescue 4-mile run and 2-mile walk will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at St. Andrews State Park. A donation of $5 gains entry into the run or walk and $10 provides eligibility for door prize drawings. All funds will go to Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, with the Panama City Health Club matching the money collected to double the donation. Contact: 914-2348 or www.PanamaCityHealthClub.com

PCB adult fall softball coaches meeting

The Panama City Beach adult fall softball league will hold a coaches meeting at the north press box Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. for the co-ed, recreational and competitive divisions. The cost is $400 per team. Contact: 236-3041 or 236-3037 visit playballinparadise.com.

Midnight Chase

The 31st annual Midnight Chase 5K will be held Sept. 5 in downtown Panama City. Registration begins Sept. 4 at 10:30 p.m. Registration is open at Active.com. Contact: 763-6891.

Gulf Coast SUN RUN

The 2010 Gulf Coast SUN RUN half-marathon, 5K and one-mile fun run/walk will take place Sept. 18 at Aaron Bessant Park near Pier Park in Panama City Beach, with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m. registration fees (before Sept. 9) are $40 for the half-marathon, $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run/walk. Callaway girls softball

The Callaway Girls Softball League is accepting signups for girls ages 5-18 for the Fall ball season online at its website www.leaguelineup.com/callawayfpsl or by calling 832-4056. We are looking for coaches for all age groups also. Contact: Ron Farris 832-4056.

Japanese karate
