Area sports announcements (Updated 1/4)

The News Herald will publish announcements of area interest concerning meetings or events. Announcements, which must be dated and contain contact information, can be mailed to the Sports Department, P.O. Box 1940, Panama City, FL, 32402, faxed to the Sports Department at 747-5097 or e-mailed to sports@pcnh.com. Events that require entry fees or registration costs that don’t benefit charities or go toward the operating expenses of youth leagues or school booster clubs, or toward the purchase of trophies and awards are not eligible, and must run as an advertisement.
Bay Area umpires
Anyone interested in umpiring recreational, high school or college baseball for Bay Area Officials Association is asked to attend meetings every 4 p.m. Sunday and 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bay Medical Healthplex at Baldwin and State 77 beginning Jan. 3. BCYSA registration
The Bay County Youth Soccer Association is having sign-ups for its spring season. Go to BCYSA.com to register, or to the food court in the Panama City Mall Saturday, Jan. 9 or Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Arnold FCA fall event
The Arnold FCA and FCA North Florida fall event will take place Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Arnold Auditorium. The guest speaker is former Clemson football coach Tommy Bowden. Admission is free. Contact: Holly Christian, 596-0493.
Bay United tryouts/academy
Bay United will hold spring tryouts for U11-U18 Jan. 14 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and U15-U18 Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Frank Nelson Park. Bay United also will host its spring academy registration Feb. 1, 3 and 8 with 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. registration and 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. training. The academy is a 10-week session. Callaway youth soccer
Registration for the spring season of Callaway Youth Soccer will be held Jan. 9 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Callaway fields, Jan. 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Panama City Mall and Feb. 6 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mall and Callaway Chick-fil-A. Registration also will be held Tuesday Feb. 2, 9 and 16 at the Chick-fil-A from 6-8 p.m. Callaway Arsenal (ages 8-12) tournament team tryouts will be 6 p.m. Jan. 8 and 12:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Callaway Sports Complex. PCB Umpires
Anyone interested in umpiring for the Panama City Beach Official Association is asked to attend meetings every Wednesday starting Jan 13. The meetings will start at 6 p.m. at the Lynn Haven Recreation Center. We will be umpiring for Lynn Haven and Panama City Beach recreation leagues. Training will be provided. Umpires must be age 16. Happy Hackers
