PANAMA CITY BEACH — Connor Sleeth tripled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored on a passed ball as Arnold edged South Walton 4-3 Thursday in high school baseball.
Sean Reichert was the winning pitcher on a four-hitter with four strikeouts and just one earned run. The Marlins, 1-1, trailed 3-0 until rallying with three runs in the sixth, however. James McKenzie had a two-run single in the comeback.
Arnold plays at Bozeman today.
Softball
Rutherford 9, Chipley 8
CHIPLEY — Rutherford’s winning pitcher Gina Mathes had two singles and scored two runs for the Rams.
Rutherford’s Jessica Thornton and Chelsey Childers each had two singles.
The Rams (1-3) host Dothan, Ala., on Monday at 6 p.m.
Arnold 17, Freeport 0
PANAMA CITY BEACH — Katie Godfrey went 4 for 4, homered and drove in three runs as the Marlins remained unbeaten after three games. Amanda Rambes was 3 for 3 with five RBIs, Delaney Dempsey had three hits, Michelle Ostrovsky had two hits including a triple, and Torrey Tomashot had two hits and two RBIs.
Dempsey was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out four in four innings.
The Arnold JV (1-1) beat Freeport 18-0. Kailyn Helms had four hits and two RBIs, Jade Sankey had three hits and four RBIs, and Valerie Butherus had three hits and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Shannon Godfrey allowed one hit and had 10 strikeouts.
Arnold hosts Mosley today, with the JV game at 4 p.m. and varsity game at 6 p.m.

The Arnold girls and boys team both won 7-0.
The Arnold girls are 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the district while the Marlins’ boys team is 1-2 overall and 1-1 in district.
Arnold plays at Gulf Breeze on Wednesday.
