District 1-3A: Arnold marches to championship game
MARIANNA — Arnold clinched a regional berth in the semifinal round of the tournament. The Marlins advanced to the championship game on Thursday against the Bay-Marianna winner later Tuesday with a 6-2 triumph over No. 2 seed Chipley. The Marlins take a 21-6 record into the finals, which will decide which 1-3A representative hosts a regional quarterfinal next Tuesday and which will travel to face the 2-3A champ.
Freshman Dana Edmundson went above the fence in center field to snare a potential home for the final out in Arnold’s win over Chipley, which reversed two previous losses to the Tigers.
The Marlins secured their second regional berth in school history in the process. Arnold never trailed after Maddie Kolovich scored on Michelle Ostrovsky’s sacrifice fly in the first inning. In the second, JoJo Booker scored on a single by Kolovich and Torrey Tomashot came in on Delaney Dempsey’s RBI single.
Katie Godfrey added a three-run homer in the fourth inning for Arnold after Chipley had closed within 3-2. Dempsey went the distance allowing seven hits with two strikeouts. Booker and Tomashot each had two hits for the Marlins.
