Gulf Breeze sweeps Arnold in 1-5A volleyball
GULF BREEZE — Arnold’s deepest foray into the Region 1-5A volleyball playoffs ended with all too predictable results Tuesday night.
The Marlins, 18-10, had their season ended with a 25-6, 25-10, 25-15 loss to Gulf Breeze in the region semifinals. Half of Arnold’s defeats this season came against the Dolphins, 23-4.
“We didn’t come ready to play tonight. We just didn’t,” Arnold coach Karisa Wesley said. “They’re a good team and we had to come ready to play.”
For the Marlins, Madi Wichterman had three kills and nine digs; Sam Brooks one kill, four digs and three blocks; JoJo Booker three kills and one dig; Emma Moskowitz three kills, one block and two service points; Sarah Robertson six kills, three digs, one block, two aces and four points and Alex Dyer 13 assists, two digs and one point.
The Marlins’ successful season could lead to an even better forecast next fall. Arnold loses one senior, Maddie Kolovich, from a roster spiced by juniors, sophomores and two freshmen.
“We have all of our starters back for next year,” Wesley said. “All of our kids play travel ball so they’re going to continue to get better.
“This was our first time to the region semifinals, but now it’s going to be something to be expected.”
Gulf Breeze moved on to meet Bishop Kenney in the region finals on Saturday. Bishop Kenney eliminated Ponte Vedra 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16.
