Liberty County forges past Blountstown
Comments 0BLOUNTSTOWN — Despite a lopsided margin in yardage, it took three full quarters for Liberty County to finally go ahead against Blountstown. But once it got the lead, it never let go.
Liberty County downed Blountstown 19-6 on Friday to force a three-team playoff Monday for the District 2-1A title and runner-up spots, and the playoff berths that go with finishing first or second in the district.
Terrance Evans gave the Bulldogs their first lead, 13-6, with a 4-yard run on the final play of the third quarter, and then put the game away with a 73-yard touchdown run with 5:49 remaining.
Evans finished with 181 yards rushing on 26 carries in a game dominated by the Bulldogs statistically. Liberty County rushed for 307 yards, while Blountstown had 31 yards. Liberty County’s total offense advantage was 312-76.
Despite Liberty County’s dominance, it was Blountstown that scored first on a 17-yard pass from P.J. Buggs to Leon Broxton 4 minutes into the game.
It took Liberty County 12 minutes to respond on a 30-yard run by Kevin McCray. At halftime, the teams were tied 6-6.
McCray had 63 yards on 12 carries and twin brother Keith McCray had 55 yards on 11 carries for the Bulldogs. Broxton led Blountstown with 17 yards on three carries.
Liberty County (8-1, 4-1) will host the playoff on Monday. Blountstown (7-2, 4-1)will play Port St. Joe in the first quarter.
