Bay paces area regional track meet qualifiers

Bay will send 20 athletes, 10 in both girls and boys divisions, to lead the area assault at the Region 1-2A track meet Friday at Jacksonville Bolles.

The top four athletes and relays in every event advance to the state 2A meet April 30 in Winter Park.

Rutherford advanced a total of 15 athletes in both divisions, Arnold has five members of its boys team competing and Marianna will be the only other area school represented with 18 athletes competing.

Bay could be the local team to watch, however, especially on the girls side. The Tornadoes produced four individual district champions in Mykeese Edwards, Alexis Goodine, Shytiarra Webb and Anissa Martin, in addition to winning relays at 4x100 and 4x400 distances.

Demetrius Barnes (200 meters), Sage Guillory (high jump) and Thomas Williams (shot put) were district champions for Bay in the boys meet, and Arnold’s 4x100 quartet of Jamari Hughes, Andre Allen, Eddie Williams and Stacey Otias also produced a title.

The only other area district champions were from Marianna, Charles Barnes and Treshae Patterson in the boys and girls triple jump.

Mosley participated in the District 2-3A meet on Wednesday at Tallahassee Chiles.
