PSJ girls win fourth straight regional track title
JACKSONVILLE — The Port St. Joe girls track team sprinted and leaped down a familiar path on Friday.
The Lady Tiger Sharks dominated the Region 1-1A track and field meet with maximum points from their minimal roster, winning their fourth straight region title.
Port St. Joe finished with 144 points. Tallahassee Maclay finished second with 114.
The Lady Tiger Sharks advanced nearly their entire squad to the state Class 1A meet where they have finished third, first and second the past three years.
Senior Kayla Parker provided 40 team points with easy wins in the 100 and 200 meters, the 100 meter hurdles and long jump. She will be attempting to add to her career nine gold medals, 11 total, at the state meet.
The top four finishers at region qualified for state. Mariah Johnson won the 300 hurdles, was second in the triple jump in a personal best and also qualified in the 100 hurdles.
Megan Walker won the pole vault and high jump and Fanequa Larry qualified in the 100, 200, 400 and triple jump.
Nicole Warren (400) and Ashleigh Lewis (pole vault) had second-place finishes and both qualified with the 4-by-400 relay team. Lewis also will run the 300 hurdles.
“Everything we are supposed to do we did,” Port St. Joe coach Kenny Parker said. “They performed. We came out of regional the way we wanted.”
