Florida schools win shootout

GRACEVILLE - The inaugural Alabama/Florida Summer Shootout basketball camps at Poplar Springs High School produced Florida overall champions in both girls and boys divisions.

Florida girls teams had combined record of 44 wins and 6 losses. Graceville girls were the overall winner with a record of 11-0. Ponce de Leon’s record was 10-1, the lone defeat to Graceville. Bethlehem and Poplar Springs each finished 8-1 and Holmes County was 8-3.

Going into the final day of the boys division, Florida trailed Alabama 38-34 in total victories. Florida won the camp by going a combined 7-2 on the last day as Poplar Springs went 3-0, Altha 2-1 and Graceville 2-1. That produced a 41-40 edge for Florida.

Chipley and Malone each finished 8-1, as did Ashford, Alabama.
