Area sports announcements (Updated 8/17)

The News Herald will publish announcements of area interest concerning meetings or events. Announcements, which must be dated and contain contact information, can be mailed to the Sports Department, P.O. Box 1940, Panama City, FL, 32402, faxed to the Sports Department at 747-5097 or e-mailed to sports@pcnh.com. Events that require entry fees or registration costs that don’t benefit charities or go toward the operating expenses of youth leagues or school booster clubs, or toward the purchase of trophies and awards are not eligible, and must run as an advertisement.

Fall tennis league

The Bay County Jr. Team Tennis Fall League is Sept. 4-Nov. 6 for ages 11-17 with play on Saturdays at Mosley’s courts. A captains’ meeting is 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Panama City Racquet Club. Registration day is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Panama City Mall food court. Deadline is Sept. 1. Cost is $35. Contact: Ann Talkington, 866-5228.

Southport Bulldogs football

The Southport Bulldogs youth football team is in need of locating sponsorship to enable the squad to participate in the upcoming season that begins on Aug. 28. Players also are welcome. Contact: 527-1955, 271-1347 or southportbulldogs@mchsi.com

PCB youth soccer

The PCB Youth Soccer League will have sign ups Aug. 21, 28 at the Frank Brown Park Community Center, room No. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Contact: www.pcbsoccer.com.

Callaway Fall Baseball

Registration for Callaway Fall Baseball will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Callaway Sports Complex on State 22. Ages 6-12 are eligible. Contact: Jeff 774-9768.

Panama City Beach Classic

The Emerald Coast Golf Tour’s Panama City Beach Classic at Hombre Golf Club Aug. 19-21 will include a junior clinic and 36-hole pro-am. The junior clinic will be held free of charge Thursday, Aug. 19 following first-round play. The pro-am stage concludes on Friday with the 54-hole Panama City Beach Classic ending Saturday. PCB adult fall softball coaches meeting

The Panama City Beach adult fall softball league will hold a coaches meeting at the north press box Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. for the co-ed, recreational and competitive divisions. The cost is $400 per team. Contact: 236-3041 or 236-3037 visit playballinparadise.com.

Fall baseball meeting

There will be a meeting for middle school-age fall baseball 6:30 p. m. Friday, Aug. 27 at the United Sports Academy at 809 Florida Ave. in Lynn Haven. Anyone interested in coaching please attend as well as all interested parties. Contact: Grady Moore 271-5547.

STK baseball training

STK Sports Training in Panama City Beach will hold Baseball Training with the Stars Aug. 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Frank Brown Park. The camp will be open to ages 6-18. Cost is $125. Midnight Chase

The 31st annual Midnight Chase 5K will be held Sept. 5 in downtown Panama City. Registration begins Sept. 4 at 10:30 p.m. Registration is open at Active.com. Contact: 763-6891.

Gulf Coast SUN RUN

The 2010 Gulf Coast SUN RUN half-marathon, 5K and one-mile fun run/walk will take place Sept. 18 at Aaron Bessant Park near Pier Park in Panama City Beach, with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m. registration fees (before Sept. 9) are $40 for the half-marathon, $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run/walk. Pop Warner registration

Beach volleyball tournament

The 2010 Balls on the Beach Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Women Athletes Supporting Women Athletes (WASWA) will be held Saturday, Sept. 25th at 10 a.m. EDT at Toucan’s in Mexico Beach. Cost is $7 per palyer for co-ed teams of six players with the option of up to two subs. Players must be at least 13 years of age. Register by Aug. 25 and receive a free T-shirt.
